About Art mentoring
about art mentoring
Are you seeking guidance to start or kick start your creativity? Would 1:1 personal support give you the safety and accountability that you need? I am both a mentor and a tutor and we can tailor the way we work to accommodate either or both.
Mentor vs. Tutor
A mentor is there to guide, bounce ideas off and encourage within a safe structured framework. A mentor is your beacon of support, your sounding board for ideas, your source of inspiration and your catalyst for growth. My mentoring ethos encompasses guiding you through critical thinking, challenging your perceived limitations, and fostering experimentation within a nurturing environment. Drawing from my extensive experience, including a decade of running an art school, I offer insights tailored to your individual journey, particularly in oil painting and drawing practices.
As a tutor I can help teach many drawing and painting skills in which I encourage very experimental approaches which focus on ‘play’ as a pivotal practise. My history of teaching privately and within schools and colleges over the past 14 years has given me a solid and wide grounding to help others from.
How it works
Make a 4 or 6-month mentoring commitment. Mentees can choose to work remotely or in person (or both).
Remote guidance
Each month, Mentees submit work to a virtual and private gallery space via WeCollect. Together we will review the work, direction, feelings and influences. Each mentoring month also includes a zoom catch up.
Studio visit and crit
Each month I can visit your studio/home to discuss the work in person. This is usually around 90 mins and I follow up with a structured email sum up.
there is a travel cost outside of BN postcodes.
*New this year is the option to experience mentoring first hand at my studios at weekends or within your own space weekdays for those local to Brighton & Hove area.
Setting my mentoring apart: a personalized approach
What sets my mentoring apart from other platforms is its deeply personal approach. I believe in fostering a symbiotic relationship where I not only guide but also share my own journey in the art world. From overcoming real-life challenges to achieving balance amidst family commitments and mental health concerns, my holistic approach encompasses your daily life and practice. Expect to explore innovative experimental techniques, delivering a comprehensive art school experience fuelled by play and tailored to the individual.
Investing in yourself
I place myself within a competitive pricing structure. A 4-month mentoring journey is priced at £500, while a 6-month commitment is available at £700. I offer a complimentary 20-minute Zoom session to see how we could work together or in-person meetups if you're in Brighton. Additionally, one-off bookings are available at £180 for new mentees and £150 for those I've previously mentored or taught ( see click link for details).
My own limits
I limit my mentorship to only 8 individuals at any given time so I can really focus on the needs of each person. Currently, my mentorship circle spans across Brighton, Bedford, Oxford, Portland (US), Spain, and Canada.
